Here at St Wilfrid's we believe that Christening is important for three reasons:
Firstly we come to give thanks to God for your child. Life is a precious gift and as such a child’s Christening service allows family and friends to gather together and thank God for them, the joy they bring and the potential they have.
Secondly we believe that Christening recognises the start of a child’s journey in the Christian faith.
Thirdly we believe that something very special happens when you get a child, a Vicar and some water together. A child’s Christening is a special moment when God draws near.
As we don't have our own church building we work in close partnership with our neighbouring parish of St Matthew's, Silksworth and most families choose to have a service at St Matthew's Church.
Christening services are currently held at St Matthew's Church at 12:15 every Sunday, with either the Rev'd David Tolhurst or the Rev'd Susie Thorp taking the service. If you want to find out more about Christenings and book a date for your child to be Christened we ask you to come along to a ‘Come and Meet Us’ Christening Enquiry Evening or Morning where we will think about what Christening means for you and your child. It is an opportunity to get to meet us and also to book a date in the diary for your child’s service. The evening / morning will last no longer than an hour and children are very welcome.
Please complete the booking form (link below) to register your interests in having your child Christened – the form includes the current dates available for our “Come and Meet Us’ evenings and mornings – let us know which enquiry evening or morning you would like to come to.

We also hold Christening's as part of our regular Sunday Worship. If you would like to be Christened as part of our regular Sunday Worship please contact Susie directly on 0191 5227639 or firstname.lastname@example.org
We look forward to hearing from you.
